Shameless Self-Promotion via Pinterest

Like many of you, Pinterest has changed my life.  As someone who cooks, crafts, creates, organizes, teaches, invents, and explores on a regular basis...Pinterest has added a whole new dimension to both my creativity and my productivity.

This morning (on the glorious 7th day of Christmas Break), I decided to get comfy in my overstuffed chair and my over sized sweats and I sat down to organize my pin boards.  I was intentional about sorting teaching ideas by subject, home ideas by dream vs. reality, and then I came to my cake pops board...

The title of my board is "Whimsy Sticks Inspiration," but as I clicked through it, I realized that I had tagged everyones ideas but my own.  If I am truly using Pinterest to its fullest potential, why am I avoiding pinning my own pictures?  My greatest inspiration often comes from projects that I have completed in the past and the new ideas that spring up on how to tweak them in the future. Pinning my own pictures to my own boards not only saves me time {no more searching through the catacombs of ancient images saved to my desktop, my email, and everywhere BUT where they should be}, but it also has the potential to possibly bring me some new business as well.

So...the pinning began!

And now for the inevitable and shameless self-promotion:  I am always available to make custom cake pops for any event in any color/flavor scheme (including gluten-free) upon request via email.  I typically require 1 week advance notice and am willing (and eager!) to work with you on all the details.  Dream BIG!  I am able to deliver around West Michigan, but can also ship orders anywhere in the US.

40th Birthday Pops!

Recently, a co-worker contacted me about making 40th Birthday cake pops for a dear friend of hers.  She had been wanting to order some Whimsy Sticks for a while now, and this seemed like the perfect time!

This order gave me the perfect opportunity to combine a little girly hot-pink with some fun sparkly black accents (just to remind her that she IS over-the-hill!)

I had an absolute blast creating the perfect packaging for this bouquet as well.  I fell in love with the classy clear box and I was able to transport and deliver the pops in style.  I am stocking up on these boxes so that all orders will now have the option of being packaged similarly.

Please excuse the terrible flash.  Someday I will sell enough Cake Pops to buy a new camera...

What I've Been Up To...

Well, it's been awhile.
Unfortunately, the only reason I'm posting right now is because I'm currently halfway through my first sick day of the new school year and have already run out of (a) daytime tv to watch and (b) fever-reducing medications to ingest.  Blah.

In other news, Whimsy Sticks is still going strong and I feel very thankful to be as busy as I've been lately with custom cake pop and gluten free cooking/baking/consulting orders.  Even during the school year, baking is a welcomed "brain break" for me and I love having that creative outlet to look forward to on the weekends.

Check out the pictures below for a glimpse into my latest orders...
Enjoy!

Crumby Day.

The day after a holiday is always such a let down.
Even worse is when it falls on a MondayBlah.

This past weekend was filled with all of my favorite things: cooking, baking, bbq-ing, hosting, celebrating, reading, gifting, decorating, and running.

Today, however, was filled with a messy kitchen, a sick hubby, 2 hours in a waiting room (and an ever-growing distaste for and distrust of sleazy pharmaceutical reps -- especially those wearing outdated pantsuits and bearing cupcakes with fondant syringes on them), a broken car (and my subsequent first-time usage of the word "jalopy"), and these muffins.  Needless to say, the muffins saved the day.

Before devouring.

You can find the basic recipe here.  I tweaked it, as always, and will gladly share if you email me.

In the meantime, I will be pumping my kitchen full of clorox, my hubby full of saltwater, and my local mechanic full of my savings account.  Happy Monday.

Catching Up...

I'd like to pretend that life has been busy, but really, I have just been lazy.

And after 26 precious little peanuts left first grade reading at grade level, loving each other, and expressing a deep curiosity about the world around them (not to mention tying their own shoes, finally making it to the bathroom in time, and no longer eating their pencils...or shirts) -- I don't feel a bit guilty about it!

They were my priority until June 3... I was a slug on my couch until June 10... and now, let the sprinkles FLY!

This is the summer of baking.

ManMallows.

My first full year of teaching just ended 48 hours ago and I have not yet regained my full mental capacity.  Add that to the fact that I am apparently [unintentionally] detoxing from caffeine today*, and I have nothing of any substance to share with you.

*I forgot to drink my morning coffee.  I didn't realize it until 9:15 am. I have this thing about avoiding hot beverages after 9 am.  It's normal, I swear.

I do, however, have a picture.

Presenting: Beer marshmallows, dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with crushed pretzels and sea salt.

Just because I can't eat them doesn't mean you can't.
Click here for the recipe, and a hysterical commentary.
